Two cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in St. Lucia, reliable sources have told the Times.
The confirmation of the two cases came after 4:00p.m. today from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), according to reports.
One male, aged twenty-five, and a female aged twenty-eight, from the Castries area are listed as the two confirmed cases, according to sources.
Saint Lucia had until now, managed to remain Zika virus free while a number of countries around it, including Martinique, have reported infections from the mosquito borne illness.
Up to last month, Health authorities here were reporting that Saint Lucia was Zika virus free.
Zika Virus is present in Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, tropical areas of Southeast Asia, Oceania, and parts of Africa.
