Caribbean news. Following five years of success and no unpleasant incidents in Jamaica, the popular BritJam Spring Festival launched in style at the Jamaica High Commission in London last night. To a packed room of students, supporting DJs, High Commission Mission staff and well wishers, Brand Director for BritJam Mr. Khori ‘Doctor” Hyde reflected on the impressive track record of the event while outlining the many interesting and fun activities planned for 2014. Khori was accompanied by his UK Event Directors, Rhoan Woolery, entertainment director and Natalie Woolery, travel relations manager.

High Commissioner Aloun Ndombet-Assamba delivered a powerful message of congratulations and support for the Khori and his team’s achievements over the years. She stressed the need for this activity to continue in light of the pressing economic circumstances Jamaica faces and urged that the Jamaica Tourist Board continue to support the BritJam venture which is clearly growing from strength to strength.

BritJam is a seven-day Spring package of parties and trips to local attractions, and is patronized by hundreds of British/European and American tourists. In the last few years, BritJam has been an important indicator that Jamaica’s path to growth is through non-traditional channels.BritJam executive Khori Hyde stated; “Despite the contracting world economy, tourists will undertake discretionary expenditure where the product is worthy. The challenge is for all aspects of the entertainment industry to keep standards consistently high. Artists, attractions, hotels, villas, stores…etc have benefited from the burgeoning search for high quality springtime entertainment”.

Khori is convinced that in spite of a contracting world economy tourists will undertake discretionary expenditure where the product is worthy. This year BritJam offers 10 premium events in 7 days. BritJam has differentiated itself from similar products by the balanced offering of contemporary cultural features alongside education in Jamaican mores and norms. Khori continues, ‘over the last four years, BritJam has been an important channel for young Diasporans to visit the country of their roots to connect with their past and to establish pathways for the future.

This year BritJam dubbed, ‘5th Anniversary of BritJam, the Ultimate Spring Music Festival’ is scheduled to take place in Montego Bay from March 5th-11th 2014.
