The Unity Jump Up held on Saturday night to open the 2012 carnival celebrations had to be stopped on the Pondfill Road early Sunday morning. According to information reaching SMN News, police stopped the Unity Jump after a stabbing incident took place in the vicinity of GEBE on the Pondfill Road. Revelers were jumping up to the beat of five bands that participated in the annual Unity Jump Up.

SMN News has been reliably informed that two young girls that were among the revelers were raped by some young boys that also participated in the pre- carnival celebrations. Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson told reporters nothing unusual took place Saturday night during the Jump Up. The Police Spokesman admitted that some arrests were made but he did not divulge any information on the reasons for the arrests.

A source close to police said that despite the large amount of police officers present Saturday night, the Jump Up got out of hand. The source said that revelers were under the influence of alcohol and it appears as though the rape victims trusted their attackers at some point when they went with them and were allegedly raped. It is not yet established if the victims of the alleged rape filed complaints with the police. A source within the police force said that the victims of the stabbing incident have since refused police assistance in the stabbing incident.
