Several of the stranded passengers came from Tobago to shop for Christmas with the hope of being back home yesterday. Instead they found themselves having to spend the night at the port.
When Newsday visited the fast ferry terminal after 5 pm yesterday, a crowd of disgruntled passengers were at the gate of the terminal building. Newsday was told that the gate was closed before 3 pm, locking them out of the compound.
Passenger Hugo Haynes of Roxborough said he was booked for the 1.30 pm sailing, but that this was delayed because of the rough seas. He expected that he would have gotten on the 5 pm sailing, but this did not happen. Haynes said he had purchased perishable goods, and was worried about spoilage.
Howard Warrick of Speyside had a confirmed ticket for the 5 pm sailing aboard the TT Express but did not get on.
He said he planned to remain at the terminal until this morning for the scheduled 6.30 am sailing. He had purchased his ham and other Christmas goods to take home. He hoped they would not spoil.
Several other passengers were just as dissatisfied over not being able to board their scheduled trip to the sister isle.
