Social Issues…A Reality!

I have always wanted to say something about certain issues in a blog or website. CaribDirect has now given me the opportunity to do so.

ABUSE- abuse of any kind is by my standards (and I hope by most peoples standards) is unacceptable. recently one of my friends told me when she was twelve her father use to drink and beat her mother.

Here we have physical abuse  between mother and father, alcohol abuse with respect to the father, and psychological abuse with respect to my friend.  It must be noted that when I heard this I wanted to find the bastard and hurt him.

For one reason, because he hits women, for the other reason he could have beaten my friend. However, my thinking was wrong, it was just helping to continue the cycle of abuse and besides; my friend told me her father was now dead. I couldn’t do anything anyway!

Poverty \ Functionalists say poverty is necessary. It ensures that there are people to do the petty jobs of society. The contemporary Caribbean has made an effort to change this view. Trinidad for example has provided free tuition to any eager mind wishing to study. They note that the way out of poverty is a good education. Education is key to a better life. With education one does not have to resort to crime.

Crime- Crime in Trinidad is quite prevalent. The murder rate exceeds the

Souring crime rate

number of days gone by in the year. The government of Trinidad and Tobago is trying to find a solution to crime.

What they fail to notice is that no known society on this earth has been able to “solve crime”, they can only hinder it.

The government has to solve the minor issues of society. Using the basics and attacking minor problems can help hinder crime. What do you think?
