Caribbean
Mrs. Griffiths was a founding member and past President of the Sickle Cell Association of Grenada.
To us, she was a true Grenadian patriot and champion for Healthcare who unselfishly served the health interest of our people. It is because of her dedicated and humanitarian services to the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Mrs. Griffiths received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal Award in 2012 and the honor of the Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 2014 for Community Services.
Jean as she was appreciatively called by her peers in the Ministry of Health, was a true friend and ally of the Ministry of Health and the health sector in general, supporting our endeavors in whatever way she could without reservation.
She was an executive member of the Caribbean Organization of Sickle Cell and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Memorandum of Understanding between Grenada Sickle Cell Association, the Ministry of Health and the Caribbean Association for Researchers in Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia (CAREST).
On behalf of the Permanent Secretaries and Staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, and on my own behalf, I would like to express sympathy to the Family and friends of our FRIEND, Jean Griffiths.
It is our prayer that her family and friends will find comfort in the Lord in their time of grief.
May she rest in peace.
The Hon. Nickolas Steele
Minister for Health and Social Security.
