I named some of the songs that were popular for summer 2012, now it is time to talk about some of the artists who had the most popular songs this past summer.

This summer was a summer that most females enjoyed, because a lot of the songs released were directed at them.  Though the person known for doing those songs was not a free man during the summer and still is not a free man, the summer was not short of those songs; some even came from him.

One artist that was very much visible this summer was Konshens.  Almost every song by Konshens was a hit; from ‘Do Sumn’ to ‘Destiny Wine’; Konshens was just hot this summer, in more ways than one.  Speaking of Destiny, his partner on this track, Tifa is undoubtedly, the most dominant female artist at the moment and one of the most dominant artists in dancehall…period.  For summer 2012, one could pick any song by either of these two and they would have picked a hit.

Another dominant artist for the summer is protégé of Vybz Kartel, Tommy Lee.  This man was just the man of the moment, this summer.  He stayed away from the female oriented songs, with mostly songs geared towards thug life.  However, he certainly made an impact by being different; he even created a bit of controversy as well.

As I said in a previous article, Aidonia seems to have found his winning

formula.  Anybody who knows me or knows my views on music and dancehall in particular would know that I think that Aidonia is one of the most underrated artists.  He is very lyrically potent, but just could not find the right shoe to kick the door open; until now.  Him finally buss.  I know some people may disagree with me, saying ‘di man buss long time’.  But I just thought that he just was not getting the deserved recognition.

Overall, the summer was an open one with a lot of artists doing well.
