Jamaican born Dr. Tashni Dubroy is a mom, wife, entrepreneur, relentless optimist, game changer, chemist and recently she was President of Shaw University, the oldest historically black university in the South.
Following her recent resignation as President of Shaw University, Howard University announced her appointment as executive vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Howard University. Dr. Dubroy will assume the position on October 2, 2017, and report directly to the president.
Two years ago we shared her story when she was appointed as President of Shaw University, a significant achievement as she was one of the youngest Presidents of any major university in the United States. Back then she knew the importance of her appointment as this meant a lot to aspiring youths from Jamaica and across the Caribbean. This is what she said about young people using her as an example,
“I want to be able to say to them, ‘Here is an example of what you can achieve if you work hard, study, stay true to your character and to your dream”
Although there were some criticism with regard to her tenure at Shaw University, there is no denial that she moved the university in the right direction. Dr. Dubroy was named the 2017 CEO of the Year by the Triangle Business Journal, the 2016 Presidential Medal of Excellence by Kingsborough Community College, and she is the first recipient of the 2016 Spirit of Excellence in Higher Education award by the Movement of Youth organization.
Dr. Dubroy was also recognized during Black History Month for her stellar accomplishments.
About Dr. Tashni Dubroy
Dr. Dubroy earned her Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 2007, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Dr. Dubroy began her career as a Research Scientist at BASF, the world’s largest chemical company. She quickly ascended to the position of global technology analyst, and after two years, was appointed to serve as chemical procurement manager, where she managed a strategic sourcing budget of $35 million.
She previously co-founded Tea and Honey Blends, a hair care company that manufactured and retailed natural hair care products, and co-owned downtown Raleigh’s Element Beauty Bar. Her entrepreneurial success has landed her on the pages of Money Magazine and Bloomberg’s BusinessWeek.
