The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has been officially confirmed as the winner of the Jamaica’s National Election 2016 after unseating the People’s National Party (PNP) in today’s polls.The party won with a majority of 33 seats to the PNP’s 30 seats.

Party leader Andrew Holness, in a live TV interview commented that he wishes the former Prime Minister (Portia Simpson Miller) well and hopes that they may be able to work together in harmony for the good of the country.

This win for the JLP will be the country’s fourth term since 1962. For the first time in Jamaica’s history, a Prime Minister and his wife have both won the seats for their respective constituencies and will be joining each other in Parliament. Juliet Holness, MP and wife of the newly elected Prime Minister won her seat in the East Rural St. Andrew constituency against PNP’s Imani Duncan Price by 52%.

Jamaica’s now former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, retained her seat in the South Western St. Andrew constituency against Member of Parliament Victor Hyde.

The PNP is expected to concede shortly at the Old Hope Road headquarters.Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga, has taken to the podium at the Belmont Road headquarters with fellow “labourties” and MPs and has shared in the jubilation of his parties election to another term in office.
