The Sustainable Consumption Week of Latin America and the Caribbean will address the economic recovery of the region

The Sustainable Consumption Week of Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its partners, will promote political and social dialogue on current consumption patterns in the region and the role of consumers in sustainable economic recovery.
The event will bring together authorities, activists, representatives of civil society and young people to analyse how to promote the change of behaviour towards sustainable consumption patterns, the importance of consumer information and eco-labelling, and the role that different sectors of society and education must play in the promotion of sustainable lifestyles.
The virtual meeting is organized by UNEP in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia and the Secretariat of Consumer Defense of Paraguay, with the support of the European Union and the Federal Ministry of Environment, nature conservation and nuclear safety of Germany.
Participants in the opening session include the UNEP Regional Director in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia, the Minister and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of Consumer Defense of Paraguay, the Head of Unit for Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Regional Operations DG INTPA, European Commission and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany.
The Sustainable Consumption Week will also host the final award ceremony of the Regional Innovation Contest for Sustainable Lifestyles, in which university students from Latin America and the Caribbean have had the opportunity to present transformative solutions to change consumption habits and lifestyles.
