PM Leaves for Panama Today

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar Prime Minister will depart Trinidad and Tobago this afternoon for a two-day official visit to Panama.

The Prime Minister will return to Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

During this visit, among other things, she will conclude negotiations related to a partial scope agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and Panama.

She will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding during a bi-lateral meeting to be held with the President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli, the Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement yesterday.
She will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Trade Stephen Cadiz, Minister of Energy Kevin Ramnarine and the Ambassador for Trade in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications Ambassador Mervyn Assam.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar has described Latin America as the new frontier for South-South Trade opportunities given the strategic location of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, the statement said.
She said in the statement yesterday that she was looking forward to the discussions in Panama and indicated that this country will continue to aggressively pursue new markets for its manufactured goods and services.
