Known for his swashbuckling performances in T20 cricket (especially in the 2012 IPL tournament), Trini and Windies all-rounder, Kieran Pollard, played probably one of the most remarkable innings of a 50-over game a few days ago.
In scoring an undefeated century, Pollard upped his game to a whole new level, showing both his detractors and admirers alike, that he is more than capable of ‘holding an innings’ together through a mixture of adaptable defence and clinical aggression.
He reminded many of Clive Lloyd in 1973 , who scored an unbeaten 173 against the mighty Aussies in that test match at Bourda in Guyana.
Interestingly, every commentator that day praised Pollard’s outstanding batsmanship even though the Windies lost to Australia the 5-match series.
Beware cricketing world, another Richards and Greenidge combination is fast emerging to continue via the Pollard ‘flashing blade’ of runs.
