Barrouallie equalises

APRIL, 2013; KINGSTOWN, SAINT VINCENT and the GRENADINES – There is a Creole saying which when translated goes like this, “those with good feet take in front.”

This is just what Layou did in their first-leg semi-final clash against Barrouallie on the evening of Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Victoria Park, when Dennis Prescott sent them into a 1-nil lead in the 10th minute.

However many may say that fate had a hand to play as Barrouallie found the back of the net twice, but both goals were ruled offside to the dismay of their fans.

It was the first of two semi-final matches of the 2013 Hairoun Community Inter-league on that night, and soon the joy of the Layou supporters went silent.

There is another Creole saying, the translation of which goes like this, “It is not who give blows first is licks; it is the licks which comes after.”

Therefore, Barrouallie replied as champions are expected to; first, they equalized in the 19th minute from the boot of Mickey Francis, and then took the lead courtesy if a Markneil Lewis strike.

Kyle Edwards made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute, and the game was all but over, when Reginald Richardson converted from the spot to make it 4-1 in the 77th minute.

Sion Hill and South Leeward clashed in the second game of the evening, and both teams began by feeling each other out. Nevertheless, it was Sion Hill striking first, Diego Sutherland finding the space needed to send his team into the lead in the 39th minute.

The score remained 1-nil in favour of Sion Hill going into the break, and without much fanfare, Tevin Slater equalized for South Leeward in the 50th minute.

Both teams continued to press for the advantage but South Leeward came up trumps in the 64th minute; courtesy a Javid Gibson strike.

On Friday night May 03, 2013 at the Victoria Park, it will be the same matchups for the second leg of the semi-final; Barrouallie takes on Layou and South Leeward and Sion Hill will do battle.

Sunday will see the winners of the semi-finals meeting at 8:00 p.m. in the Final, bringing to closure the 2013 Hairoun Community Inter-League Football tournament, which began in February this year.
