Brooklyn, NY (Sonique Solutions) – Ahead of 2022, New York City-based artiste Aquel J has released his latest Soca contribution entitled ‘Breed Yuh’.
‘Breed Yuh’ which was written by Aquel J and produced by DJ Jr. Cruiza is certainly a tune for the wining queens frequently seen on the global fete scene.
In the song, Aquel J colourfully communicates how one such girl’s gyrations may entice him to immediately expedite the stages of their budding relationship.
Much like the song title, the danceable track’s lyrics are rooted in distinct Caribbean jargon.
Regarding the lyrics in this ‘let’s cut to the chase’ type song, Aquel J shared, “I got lyrically inspired by the way we people of Caribbean decent communicate via slang, picong etc. We have a direct, raw way of speaking that can come off comical, flattering or off-putting depending who we’re speak to, yet we have a ‘take me as I am’ demeanour that people tend to love.”
This provocative new track has also spawned an accompanying music video which has been turning heads and creating a buzz online for its out of the box storytelling and risqué nature.
The music video for Breed Yuh which gives a nod to the 1996 movie ‘Set It Off’ as well as an episode of the 90’s sitcom ‘Martin’ combines intensity, sexiness and humour and has thus far been regarded by several viewers as eye-opening, unexpected and even mind-blowing.
With Breed Yuh, Aquel J aspires to surpass the limits of Carnival seasons and score a ‘Gasolina-level’ party anthem, especially with audiences who are unfamiliar with the Soca genre.
The first generation Trinidadian-American who also operates the virtual restaurants World Wingz Restaurant & Soca Kitchen TV, music label WE Muziq Entertainment & event promotion company WE Vibe NYC, holds firm to his West Indian roots.
He gets a lot of his musical motivation from attending local fetes, limes and events in his native Brooklyn where he observes what sounds, drops and rhythms move the people.
Growing up, Aquel J was influenced by artistes such as Machel Montano and Jay Z and he desires to one day collaborate with hitmakers the likes of Erphaan Alves and Da Baby.
He has been referred to as the ‘hybrid’ or the ‘Trap Soca’ artiste due to his ability to merge other genres seamlessly and his versatile style that allows him to deliver his verses like that of a Hip-Hop performer while still maintaining an authentic Caribbean flavour.
He looks forward to taking the journey together with audiences as they get to know him and his ever-evolving music.
