Rihanna is crowned the queen of the digital sales. The Barbados singer, who claimed her worldwide fame through her 2007 smash hit single “Umbrella”, has pulled in the most downloaded songs andalbums in the digital world despite her relatively-brief music career which she started in 2005.
According to the number released by Nielsen SoundScan, Riri has garnered a whopping 47.5 million digital downloads since making her debut through “Music of the Sun“. In 2011 alone, she has sold a grand total of 13.9 million copies of records, placing her at the third place on the year’s top ten digital selling artists.
In the all-time list, Riri beats Black Eyed Peas and Eminem. The former settles at the runner-up place with 42.4 million, while the latter sits at no. 3 with 42.2 million. The Slim Shady is the ninth-best selling digital artists of 2011, while BEP miss the list. The group, however, place two of their singles on “top 10 selling digital songs of all time” list where Riri was absent.
Aside from Riri, BEP and the Slim Shady, other musicians who make it on to the “top 10 best-selling digital artists” list are Lady GaGa, Taylor Swiftand Katy Perry. The Mother Monster occupies the fourth place with 42 million, the “Safe & Sound” crooner follows at the next spot with 41,8 million, and the “Teenage Dream” hitmaker claims the sixth place with 37 million.
Though she is only ranked sixth on the all-time list, Katy, who produces five No. 1 single from one single album “Teenage Dream“, has the most downloaded music in the year of 2011. According to the Nielsen data, she has raked in a staggering 15.1 million, beating Adele and the champion of all-time Riri.
