Home African Caribbean Wealth expert says it straight for Caribbean Community

On the last weekend before Spring 2016 many concerned members of the African Caribbean community in London gathered at the Park View School, Tottenham to learn about how they could keep the hard earned money they and their forefathers earned for themselves and their offspring.

The inclement weather was no deterrent to the eager participants who travelled from as far as South London to hear wealth preservation and planning expert Sean Freckleton break down the issues of taxes, pensions, probate, insurance and more for the benefit of a community largely in the dark about how these financial matters can improve the quality of life for both themselves and their children.

The presentation to a packed auditorium covered all of these topics and more including wills which prompted Sean to emphasize the point that taking out a will does not cause premature death, as many within the African Caribbean community tend to believe. Many participants were pleased to learn that wills are easy and inexpensive to set up and are quite important to ensuring assets and other forms of property are passed down sensibly thereby avoiding the all so familiar unpleasant family squabbles common in the African Caribbean communities.

One participant was so intrigued by the discussion about wills and probate (the legal process whereby a will is “proved” in a court and accepted as a valid public document that is the true last testament of the deceased) that she asked if probates can be done by the families themselves, to which Sean replied: ‘Probates are generally done by solicitors who understand the process and the complexities involved’.

  • How Trusts & Tax efficient inheritance planning can mitigate Inheritance Tax (IHT), prevent dispute and protect wealth against divorce, sideways disinheritance, bankruptcy & long term care fees
  • The difference between Executors and Trustees and their respective roles and responsibility
  • How Trusts are controlled and governed
