“The Coast Guard and the forces from Barbados played an integral role in the evacuation efforts in Dominica. They also assisted in the transportation of supplies to many of the affected areas and also provided security support to the officers in Dominica. The assistance was exceptional and I wanted to personally come here to thank them and express on behalf of the Dominican people, our profound gratitude and to say to them that we shall never forget their contribution,” he said.

Mr. Skerrit added that he was particularly touched by the assistance received from Barbados and other countries in the region, as they were all experiencing economic challenges. “This is a true demonstration of generosity and speaks well for the future of our region…we are in fact our brother’s keeper and we are in fact one Caribbean,” he pointed out.

Chief of Staff at the Barbados Defence Force, Colonel Alvin Quintyne, presented Prime Minister Skerrit with a token of appreciation. He noted that the soldiers deployed to Dominica spoke positively of their experience in that country, and that they had gained some knowledge on how to better prepare for natural disasters.
