In the last episode I told you about the apple of my eye, Angel who in an effort to preserve her dignity, slapped me across the face for accidentally bumping into her at the public library.

It was weeks before I came to grips with the notion that Angel, though totally unaware of my feelings for her, would now never speak to me in life. ‘She probably doesn’t even remember I’m alive’, I thought to myself, grimly.

As I went about my usual uneventful life I would sometimes notice Angel, who was in a different class from mine, in the cafeteria or in the auditorium for assembly on mornings or getting in to her dad’s car at the end of school. I now come to believe I didn’t notice Angel by coincidence but by design as I somehow remember deliberately being in places I knew she’d be. I think maybe I sincerely thought her slapping me wasn’t intentional but a spontaneous act in defence of her status in the school. She was popular!

One day while minding my own business, this time, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned around and my knees buckled slightly, my eyes watered and my palms began to sweat…I wasn’t sure weather to run for my life, scream for help or collapse and play dead!

It was Angel and she actually looked me in the eye and asked me a question, ‘Do you believe in coincidence?’ The shock of the whole experience caused me to stutter and tremble uncontrollable allowing me the most lame but audible response I could muster, ‘ I don’t know…Do You?’

The sharp pain and stinging feeling on my right cheek, very similar to an earlier experience, made it clear I had NOT answered correctly…After that second slap there I was thinking again that…Life Sucks!!
