Spiritual commentary. Envy, which is one of the seven deadly sins is when there is hatred towards another person because of their possessions, status, appearance or god given talents. It’s that silent stare, or the uncomfortable feeling one receives when disclosing success.  For example: a promotion, new present, or wedding engagement.

The Bible in The New International Version in the book of Galatians chapter 5 verse 1 reads “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”  And verses 19-21 reads “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The Elimination of envy is essential in achieving love, acceptance, joy with self and mankind.  Envy is a purposeless emotion that blocks blessings because God has created us as individuals with our own distinct gifts so there is no need to envy someone for their accomplishments or possessions as God has tailor made blessings engraved with our name on it.

Blessings are abundant for all of us. Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’ by obtaining what others have.  Be content with what you have. Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
