Guyanese born Valerie Ann Amos, Baroness Amos, LG, CH, PC (born 13 March 1954) is a British Labour Party politician and diplomat who served as the 8th United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. Last week she distinguised herself further by being the first person of colour / African heritage to receive The Most Noble Order of the Garter, an order of chivalry founded by Edward lll of England in 1348. It is known as the most sebior order of knighthood in the British honours system, outranked in precedence by the Victoria Cross and the George Cross. Well Done Baroness you’ve done your people proud!
