The Power of Honour And Respect

Today I was given further insight into what honour and respect truly is and it’s importance in preserving the special relationships we have in our lives. I’m not saying non-special relationships are not worthy of such benevolence, what I’m highlighting is the importance of preferring others above ourselves.

As women we must understand the need to walk in honour and respect, because God called us to live this way. Such characteristics must be borne from the heart and cannot have any hidden agendas or secret motives.

But what does it mean to bestow honour and respect to another? One of the meanings of the word ‘honour’ according to Merriam Webster’s dictionary is “to regard or treat (someone) with admiration and respect…to give special recognition to…”. God calls for honour to be given to Him¹, our parents² and to everyone³. When we admire and give special recognition to God first and then to others we are not only walking in God’s character, but we are loving each other as we love ourselves, (Matthew 22:39).

In regards to the meaning of the word ‘respect’, one of Webster’s definitions of this word is “an act of giving particular attention [or] consideration to4. God calls us to give attention to His Word…(Proverbs 4:20). By us giving particular attention to God’s Word we are in effect giving Him first and the best place in our lives. When we surrender in humility to honour and respect God and others the back of selfishness is broken in our hearts and minds, we’re saying Lord you are God and deserve the highest honour and praise, furthermore we are the recipients of God’s greatest blessings. In honouring and respecting each other we are placing their needs above our own…we are sacrificing our desires and preferring theirs.

Honour and respect protects, promotes trust, health and well-being. If there’s anyone in your life that you’ve dishonoured and disrespected, (i.e. through betrayal, malalignment, lying etc). I encourage you to go before God and repent, ask for His forgiveness and the wisdom of how (if possible) to resolve the situation. Honour & respect towards God and one another is beautiful let us move, live and have our being in it.

Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
