Female Athletes Do Caribbean Proud At Tokyo Olympics

Caribbean Olympic Success Caribbean Olympians wowed spectators across all events in this year’s Tokyo 2021 Olympic games. No event highlights the achievement of these athletes as much as the woman’s 100 metres where first, second and third place were all taken by runners from the Jamaican team.
Elaine Thompson-Herah who won gold came just 0.12 seconds short of beating the world record set by America’s Florence Griffith-Joyner at 10.49 seconds. Thompson-Herah said “I could have gone faster if I wasn’t pointing and celebrating early. But that shows there is more in store, so hopefully one day I can unleash that time.” 
The silver and bronze medals were won by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson respectively. 
The Caribbean region wrapped this years games with 34 medals, 9 of which were won by the Jamaican team, 15 by Cuba, the Bahamas ended with two gold medals, there were 5 won by the Dominican Republic, 1 gold by Bermuda and Puerto Rico and a bronze from Grenada. 4 of the Cuban gold medals were won in the boxing by Roniel Iglesias, Arlen López, Julio César La Cruz and Andy Cruz. A bronze was also won in this event by Lázaro Álvarez. The country’s other gold medals were won in wrestling by Luis Orta and Mijaín López and Canoeing by the pair Fernando Jorge and Serguey Torres. Silver medals were woman by Idalys Ortiz, Juan Miguel Echevarría and Leuris Pupo in Judo, Athletics and shooting. Two bronze Medals were also won in athletics by Maykel Massó and Yaime Pérez. As well as two being won by Lázaro Álvarez and Reineris Salas. 
Elaine Thompson Herah also added to her gold medal count by coming first in the 200m and also winning as part of the 100m relay team with Remona Burchell, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Johnson, Natasha Morrison and Briana Williams. 
Another gold was won by Hansle Parchment in the 110m metre hurdles. The remaining medals were won by Megan Tapper and Ronald Levy in athletic events as well as the 400m relay team comprising Jungle Bromfield, Shericka Jackson, Roneisha McGregor, Janieve Russell and Stacey-Ann Williams. The Bahamas won a gold in both the men’s and the women’s 400 metres with Steven Gardiner and Shaunae Miller-Uibo. Zacarías Bonnat won a silver medal for the Dominican Republic in the weightlifting. 
Another silver was won by the Dominican Republic 400m mixed relay team; Lidio Andrés Feliz, Marileidy Paulino, Anabel Medina, Luguelín Santos and Alexanda Ogando. The bronze medals were won by Crismery Santana in Weightlifting and the men’s baseball team. Bermudas Flora Duffy won a gold in the triathlon, a single gold was also won for Puerto Rico in the women’s 100m Hurdles by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. And a bronze was won by Kirani James in 400 Metre hurdles for Grenada.
