Even though Dancehall is my favourite genre of music, I must admit that I have heard some really crappy songs over the past few years.  Whether it is the production that is not up to par or lyrics that do not make sense, or are contradictory or are not chronologically structured.  All in all, some of these songs are just crap.  Here are some of the worst Dancehall songs I have heard in recent years, in no particular order.

  1. Vybz Kartel – Usain Bolt:  Now, in the heights of the World Championship of 2008, we were all excited.  Many artists got excited as well, singing songs about the outstanding performances of our athletes.  We saw where Konshens did a remix of his song winner, to give tributes to the athletes, Mavado also made a tribute song to Asafa Powell.  Now I don’t know what was happening with Kartel when he voiced this song for Usain Bolt.  I do not know if the artist was just trying to take advantage of the opportunity the Championship presented, or he genuinely was just ‘bigging up’ the athlete but whatever the reason was for that poor excuse for a song, the objective was not met. Check it out here

2. Beenie Man ft D’Angel – Beenie Man:  I honestly do not know where to start with this one.  No lyrics neva present inna di song, di hook did waa bend likl more and overall that song was jus annoying.  All I could hear was D’Angel’s annoying voice shouting ‘Beenie Man’.  Like seriously, was the producer sleeping when that song was being voiced?

3. Kiprich – Brown:  Now I know some of you liked this one because it was number one for weeks on FiWi Choice and I just found this song annoying.  This was yet another failed attempt from another sad artist trying to get some attention from Vybz Kartel.  Brown yo kyaa get brown?  Like seriously Kiprich, stick to yo mix up drama filled songs weh can tun movie cuz d story line dem shot.  Leave out di bag a throw wud song, ano your ting dat.

4. Leftside – Tried:  I have to say big ups to the producer of the Go Go Club

Dancehall artist Leftside

Riddim, it did shot, every song pon it did shot EXCEPT dis idiotic song from Leftside.  I usually like Leftside’s materials, but this song jus was not working for me at all.  It jus spoil di riddim inna my opinion.  It is the worst song on the riddim.  He puts on this old man’s voice and keeps talking about how tired he is.  I found this song irritating and wanted to scream whenever I heard it.

Dancehall artist Ding Dong

5. Ding Dong – Responsible Parent:  Ding Dong, you did Bad Man Forward which was quite popular, then you did Holiday which was a huge hit but honestly, you need to get back to dancing.  I get that he is trying to bring across a message in the song, but the song was just contradiction all over.  In the chorus he says “if yo nuo yu no responsible, don’t have sex without boots.” And I agree with you but where I got confused was when he was calling the names of some men and telling them it is time they have a child now.  And I am thinking, nuh you jus tell dem don’t have sex without boots if dem no responsible.  But seriously though Ding Dong, before you go in the recording booth, think about what you say before you voice it.

6. For number six, I do not have one particular song.  For number six one artist manages to take this a slot with every song that he has.  That is if he actually has any.  La Lewis Big up yo self.  Any song weh you sing, mek dah list yah.  Dah slot yah reserved fi yo.
