Apologize Chris… Please!

While West Indies is abroad struggling against Bangladesh, one of the region’s more experienced batsmen is representing his country in the regional competition.

To an uninformed this would seem most absurd, and it actually is most absurd even to the informed.

In this latest saga, the WICB is now demanding an apology from Chris Gayle for comments he made to the media concerning the state of West Indies cricket. He is to do this before he can once again become eligible to represent the regional team. And it seems as if, based on unconfirmed reports, that Chris Gayle has no intention to apologize.

Therefore, it seems as if this latest saga is once again one where politics is being put before the team. I mean this is déjà vu which is becoming very annoying for all concerned. I am sorry but they are acting like school boys; where neither of them wants to be seen as the weaker one. Thus like in a chess game where both players are of equal ability; the game will be ongoing because no one can win and no one will want to call stalemate.

Dissenting Chris Gayle

Therefore, I am calling on Chris Gayle to be the bigger person and apologize to the board whether he means it or not. Honestly, we don’t care; he just needs to be back in the team to improve our chance of competing. I won’t even go as far as to say winning because that would be quite ambitious of us to say that the West Indies is capable of beating anybody.

Thus Chris please put ego aside and apologize for the comments that you had made. Trust me the fans would respect you even more because they would see that you are really concerned about the state of the region’s cricket. And I am not saying that Chris alone can improve the performance of the team, because it is indeed a team effort.

But the presence of a senior player would hopefully reduce the pressure on the junior players. Also, he would be available to give advice to junior players because of his years of experience.

So will good sense for once prevail? Only time will tell.
