Every year around this time dancehall fans anticipate all the party songs that electrify their bodies and stick in their memories.
Yes it is summer once again and I am waiting to see which artist will take summer this year. The field is wide open for all the artists to play. So far Konshens is first out the gate with some of his hot hits spewing over into the hot season.
Bubble is still making strides and his Stop Sign is on green. Does he have what it takes to maintain this early lead? I don’t know, I guess we will see. My bet however, is that he is in it for the long haul.
Next in line for summer 2012 is Popcaan, he sprinted out of his blocks with the incarceration of his mentor and has managed to keep his momentum going ever since. But how much longer can he hold on? Will the summer heat be too hot for Popcaan or will it be just right to keep him popping?
Also doing well are Cham and his wife O. So far most or all their collaborations have been hits. They started off with a bang. And like Konshens and Popcaan they also, already have a warm foot going into the summer. Cham is a known hit maker and his cute wife has proved herself to be an asset. So I cannot wait to see what they both have up their sleeves for the tun up season.
T.I.F.A is also doing really well. She is not just a good female artist; she is a good artist over all. Also she is arguably the best female lyricist at the moment. She is arguably a better lyricist than a lot of the male artist (I call no names). As we can all see, the spelling diva does not look like she will be slowing down anytime soon, and she looks to be ready for summer 2012.
Of course with the return of the queen of slackness I certainly could not conclude this article without mentioning Lady Saw. Yes yes the queen of slackness is back and she also looks set to take summer 2012.
This summer looks set to be a good one. I can’t wait to see which artists come out with the hits we have become accustomed to at this time of year.
