The feud is said to originate from the usage of the ad-lib “Yaaooow” which can be heard in numerous songs from both artists. Demarco is asserting that he is the originator of the term.
Kingston City has been well received by many fans, and the notion of a feud between the artists is being a good thing for the Dancehall scene, while some are saying that Demarco is ‘badminding’ Popcaan’s success. Some of the lyrics in the song which were taken as a diss to Popcaan are: “Nuh mek mi mek forensic white chalk the street, yaaooow! Dem tief mi style and nuh ask mi fi it, mi hear behind mi back some bwoy a beat off dem beak but tell dem wey mi si heart nuh leap.”
Meanwhile, Gaza deejay Popcaan has seemingly shot back at the artist with a song entitled ‘Fry Yiy’ recorded over the popular #TNS or Team No Sleep riddim. In the song Popcaan addresses his detractors including Demarco, many of which he notions are less successful than himself: “The whol’ place a sey Fry Yiy, some bwoy fi write some hit song and stop cry.”
However Demarco has claimed that he is in fact the more popular deejay. Speaking to the Jamaica STAR he bragged: “Him a sey artiste fi write some hit song and stop cry, but him nuh mek no song big like “I Love My Life,” I got 25 million views on YouTube and I have been all over the world.” A new Demarco track on the #TNS riddim hit the internet yesterday as a preview. Simply entitled ‘Popcaan Diss’ the war definitely seems to be on. Take a listen.
