It exploded on Thursday night with Soca from “The Sweetest Band in the World” and reigning Road March Champions from St Kitts, the Small Axe Band.
Joining them in the Soca explosion was the Kore Band from Nevis, Nu Vybes Band International, the legendary Grandmasters Band, Trinidad Road March King Bunji Garlin, Trinidad Soca Monarch SuperBlue and the Soca Empress Fay-Ann Lyons. Soca fans enjoyed a real treat!!!!
On Friday 28 June fans were entertained by Dejour, who was making his debut on the Music Festival stage; local rap artiste Dagah and Charles Emanuel.
However, due to circumstances beyond her control Jamaican songstress Tessanne Chin was replaced at the last minute by singing sensation Christopher Martin, being one of the most sought after Jamaican performers at the moment and he made sure his presence was known to the excited audience.
Dancehall hit-maker Konshens surely made the female fans “Bubble” and Mr. Lover Lover himself the Grammy Award-winning Shaggy also kept the crowd excited with his hypnotising dance moves and his duet with the legendary King of Lovers Rock, Beres Hammond who did what he does best and his adoring fans were not disappointed.
On Saturday 29 June the iconic award winning R&B crooner Lionel Richie was the headline act. With a career spanning 45 years and producing a number of chart-topping pop and love songs, including Dancing on the Ceiling, Hello, Three Times a Lady, Endless Love and All Night Long, Lionel took the crowd to heaven.
Richie was the only act out of the US however the Music Festival also boasted a long list of outstanding local and regional acts.
The festival concluded with the Cayon High School Pantastics who provided some local culture and tradition into the event with lively steel-pan selections of popular songs from various genres. Also entertaining the crowd was accomplished Caribbean Jazz musician Andy Narell, who has played hundreds of concerts and jazz festivals around the world, featuring Relator, one of Trinidad’s finest calypsonians along with Special Guest acclaimed trumpet and steel drum player Etienne Charles.
2014 sees the 18th Annual St Kitts Music Festival and be assured it may be the best one yet, so make sure you book your tickets and accommodation well in advance…!
