The Kenrick Fullerton Issue: The Prime Minister Must take Responsibility!!

Members of Her Majesty’s Oppositions say the Tillman Thomas administration has again proven that the words accountability, transparency and good governance are mere words used conveniently by its members to deceive the voting population.

Commenting on the allegations that former Member of Parliament and a Senior Officer in the Ministry of Youth Kenrick Fullerton has been involved in fraudulent activities, former Minister for Legal Affair Hon. Elvin Nimrod says the Prime Minister should take full responsibility for Fullerton having an opportunity to allegedly forge the signature of a Permanent Secretary and disappear when the news surfaced in the media.

In response to statements from members of the Government, that the whereabouts of Fullerton is unknown, Nimrod responded.  “How can this be when we have proper systems in place to give details of the destination of any person leaving the island and to track their whereabouts?”

The member for Carriacou and Petite Martinique added that on the contrary at least one member of the Government has publicly confirmed that he has been in communication with Fullerton since he left the island.  Furthermore Nimrod explained that if the Government is really serious about finding Fullerton then they can do so both locally and internationally through the Financial Intelligence Unit and Interpol.

The Opposition is questioning how long the Prime Minister was aware of these allegations and why the Grenadian public was first informed of this through the media and not the Government; whether or not the Prime Minister had any intention of having this information made known; and why the Government chose to reward Fullerton by appointing him to the position of Advisor to the Minister for Youth when his previous financial misconducts, reports of physical abuse to his wife and allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female Police Officer were well known.

The Opposition is therefore calling on the Prime Minister to be consistent and not to just use the words accountability, transparency and good governance when it is politically useful to do so.
