This is the last month in the 13th month of Kemetic Sidereal Calendar – the month of NWT. The Netert (Goddess/Deity) that governs this month is Nwt (nut).
Every day in the month of NWT is honored as a Divine Holy Day and it is also unique in the fact that it consists of only 5 (sometimes 6) days. We cannot acknowledge our presence in space and time without acknowledging how these foundations are possible because the Divine World exists. Every element of existence is governed by a Deity.
Originally the year consisted of twelve months of thirty days. Nwt, the Goddess of the sky and Geb, the God of the Earth, were caught in the act of procreation by the Great God Ra. Ra became angry at the Goddess’ rush to create, and he punished Nwt by forbidding her to bear children all 360 days of the year. Nwt was devastated and decided to appeal her plight to the Ennead of the Gods. The Ennead of Gods consisted of nine Nerteru. Part of their purpose is to protect the stability of the Universe. The Ennead felt sorry for Goddess Nwt and decided to add extra days to the year so that she could bear children. Thus, the month of Nwt was born and Goddess Nwt was able to bear her five children: Wsr, Heru the Great, Seth, Aishat and Nephtys, and this is how the last five days of the calendar were added.
Every 4 years this Divine pact is renewed adding a sixth day at the end of this month, so every 4 years there are 366 days in the year (this is where the concept of the colonial leap year comes from). This 6th day of NWT (10th September), the last day of the Kemetic year 420, is known as World Renewal Day and is a very important day for all of humanity. This day is seen as a period of readjustment and it is an ideal time to clean and rearrange our homes as well as various aspects of our lives. At The Earth Center we celebrate this day with a feast and spiritual activities. It is a day of reverence and gratitude, but most importantly, it is the period in which humanity renegotiates our commitment to the Divine World for the opportunity to continue the human experience. By honouring this day we are renewing the Divine pact that Goddess Nwt made to the Ennead of the Gods.
