A seven-member team will represent Grenada at next week’s Carifta Games in Bermuda.

Grenada Athletics Association (GAA) last weekend released the names of the athletes chosen for the April 7-9 track and field competition at the National Sports Centre.

The team will be banking on the experienced Linden Toussaint and Nickheila John of the St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School.

Toussaint picked up bronze in the boys heptathlon behind his Grenadian counterpart Andell Joseph (silver) and Kemar Jones of Barbados (gold) in last year’s Games in Jamaica.

Toussaint is the lone Grenadian competitor for the heptathlon and will also compete in the Under-20 boys discus and javelin events.

John, who missed out of medalling in the 200 and 400 metres last year, will again double in the events in Bermuda. She was fourth in the Under-20 girls 200m in 24.27 and also fourth in the 400m in 55.40.

Other members of the team are Mickel Joseph of Hillsborough Secondary School and Anderson Peters of St David’s Catholic Secondary School in the Under-17 boys Javelin; Kenisha Hazzard of SDCSS in the Under-17 girls 100m and 200m; Crystal Mitchell of St Joseph’s Convent St Andrew in the Under-17 girls 1500 and 3000m; and Ricky Thomas of SAASS in the Under-17 boys 400 and 800m.

The officials with the team are Erica Fortune and Paul Phillip (coaches) and Abrel Patrick (area technical official).

Grenada picked up six medals including a gold medal at the Carifta Games in Montego Bay, Jamaica last April.

It will be the fourth time Bermuda has hosted the Games, following previous Games in 1975, 1980 and 2004.
