Last time I named the first five of some of the songs that are riding the popularity train during the summer. Here is the second five, in no particular order.
Bruck it Dung by Mr. Vegas: Yes I know this song has been out since last summer and it also made my list last summer as well; but there is no denying the popularity of this song, even now.
One does not see a song with such a long lifespan today, especially in dancehall where there is new material being produced and released every day.
1. Dweet Again by Beenie Man: Once again we see where Beenie has managed to maintain his relevance to dancehall, with this song, where he underscores his relevance throughout the years.
2. Back to Life by Vybz Kartel: this song stirred up a lot of controversy, being released while the artists was behind bars. Persons were saying the song sounded too real to be just a figment of Kartel’s imagination; hence it must have been recorded while the deejay was in jail.
3. Married an Dun by Kartel and Gaza Slim: all I have to say about this is that I find it amazing how this man manages to maintain his prominence in a space where he is currently missing in action.
4. Tan Tuddy by Aidonia: the first time I was hearing this song, I was on a bus, going to the country and it was being played on a radio station. It sparked outrage from some of the other passengers on the bus, demanding the driver to turn off that crap and play some Bob Marley.
I have nothing against Bob Marley or anything, but it was my first time hearing the song and I wanted to hear it; and being that I was also a paying passenger, I also voiced my piece.
With that said, Aidonia has certainly found a formula that is working for him in recent times, because his is one that has been prominent in the dancehall space, since of lately.
