The United States, as a country, benefited immensely from its stance as a multi-cultured nation, backed by the mantra that it is the land of opportunity – the land of the free, whichever you consider first. As such, you have many people from a myriad of backgrounds settling there – which, in turn, supplied the same country with vast talents. Speaking of these talents, the Caribbean region for sure has provided many huge names over the years, some of which have gone on to become household celebrity names across the entire world. Therefore, this article explores some of these celebrities, looking into the vast amount of talent that the region provides in the U.S across different disciplines. 

Whenever celebrities from the Caribbean are mentioned, what fast comes to mind are big names like that of Rihanna, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados. But interestingly, there are more big names on the entertainment and movie scenes that originate from the Caribbean, as we shall see in this series of articles.

Of course, Rihanna is a musician, making it easy for someone to assume the same for some names that you might think of for the purposes of this article. But that is not the case, even though a number of other musicians will make the list, we do have a couple of names in the movies front, as well as a number of other important roles in the showbiz industry, like MCs and event hosts. Speaking of which, what quickly comes to mind is the name of Lala Anthony, who is Puerto Rican. She is a television personality, New York Times best-selling author, businesswoman, producer, and actress. 

Moving on, it’s not a secret that Nicki Minaj has made it huge in the entertainment industry, but many would not associate her with any other country besides the U.S. Well, she is known as a Trinidadian rapper from the country of Trinidad and Tobago.

Romany Malco, also from Trinidad and Tobago has made a name for himself in the movies sector in the United States in such shows as The 40 Year Old Virgin and Conrad Shepard in the Showtime television series Weeds

When looking at the Bahamas, a huge name to come out of there is Beyonce. Her father originates from the Bahamas, making her roots firmly from there. More so, the twins, Tia and Tamera have roots in the Bahamas, and so is Lenny Kravitz. Kravitz made his name in the U.S as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor. 

Moving on to Jamaica, the country well known for its association with Reggae music has a couple of surprises in the movies industry. Did you know? Kerry Washington, popular for her role as Olivia Pope in the series Scandal, has connections to Jamaica though her mom? 

A lot of surprises come to the fore when looking at such a subject. There are many names that can make the list, including that of big names such as LL Cool J, who has his roots also in Barbados.
