Caribbean news. I believe I can speak for everyone when I say that carnival 2014 was indeed spectacular. Every step of the way escalated from good to great to awesome. From Jouvert to Ash Wednesday, the celebration, the people, the atmosphere was ideal and divine.

In my personal experience playing Jouvert with ICandy (a Jouvert band) was amazing. Starting from Montrose Trinidad and ending up in Cunupia. The mud, the oil, the paint and the powder, the music and the “Wotlessness”, it was indeed enjoyable. Few chose to sleep in late, have a late lunch and make their way to the major cities for carnival celebration, such as Chaguanas, San Fernando and of course Port of Spain. Many played in the bands on both days and enjoyed a cool down session on Wednesday.

In addition, the former Soca Moarch champion, now turned Mas maker, Ronnie Macintosh won band of the year. The “fireman” Mr. Bungi Garlin and his wife Fay-ann Lions made it on the international stage and took Soca to the big stage. He won a Soul Train award and an MTV Award as well as featuring in Rolling Stone Magazine. On a different note, the current Power Soca Monarch champion, Machel Montano has hinted retirement from competition.

All committees, all boards, have submitted reports on the success of Carnival 2014. It was a safe and enjoyable experience. In my previous article I made mention of what to do for next year. I hope that you took my advice as every stakeholder of carnival is currently planning to top this year. If I was a betting man I would say, next year is going to be amazing. What are you waiting for? As we say in Trinidad “Make movements”. Photos courtesy Ricky Musai @ Musai’s Photography
