Matthew 6:9-13 Luke 11:2-4

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven: If we are children of God, who can call Him “Our Father”.  He is the creator of heaven and earth, He is the father who knew us before we were born, and He knitted us together in our mother’s womb.  God is the father of all things, the one who is and is to come. His name is above all other names. He is the God who is faithful, loves you unconditionally, He is patient and kind, He is what love is (1 Corinthians 13:1). God loves us so much that He sent his only begotten son to die for our sins. No matter how many times you fall He is there to pick you up.  He is the Alpha and Omega, He is the Lord Almighty.

Hallowed be they Name: Hallowed means sanctified; consecrated, set apart as sacred. We are calling his name with love, adoration, and reverence. He is our father.   We are instructed in Exodus 20:7 in the Commandments that God’s name is never to be taken in vain. There are people who call themselves Christians, but they bear His name with a “so what” attitude. They have no interest in the Bible, nor in faithful church attendance or Christian fellowship.  Many Christians enjoy an exciting “worship experience” and love to sing about Jesus, but do not have any interest in studying and obeying His Word. Psalm 138:2, God’s Word is to be magnified above all other name.

These are some of the names of God and their meanings

1. Elohim – Almighty God, Creator.
2. Jehovah – The God who reveals Himself to us.
3. El-Shaddai – God blesses us.
4. Adonai – He is our owner and master
5. Jehovah-Jireh He is our provider
6. Jehovah-Rophe – He is our healer
7. Jehovah-Nissi – Our banner in warfare
8. Jehovah M’Kaddesh – Who sanctifies us
9. Jehovah- Shalom – Our peace
10. Jehovah-Tsidkenu – Our righteousness
11. Jehovah-Rohi – My Shepherd
12. Jehovah- Shammah – Is there with us.
13. Immanuel – God with us.
14. The Lord Jesus Christ – God in flesh to save us.

Thy Kingdom come: The Kingdom of God is within you. (Mark 10.15) “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it. Entrance means coming into full possession.  God’s manifested presence with us without ceasing; God’s blessed rule and dominion over us established, so that His heavenly will is done in us and by us.

The words give expression to the great truth that before we can enter the Kingdom, it must first enter into us. Before we can possess its privileges and powers, it must first possess us, with all our powers and being. We must, in subjection and surrender, in poverty and emptiness, receive the Kingdom into our heart before we are fit to be entrusted with all the power and glory it offers us.

Thy will be done o

.n earth, As it is in heaven: Jesus is saying that God’s “Will”  is done in all things as it is in Heaven.  That the perfect plans of God be carried out in our lives and on earth as is always done in heaven. God’s Will for us is written in the Bible,  It will take you where God wants you to go if you are willing to study it and allow God to give you wisdom to understand His ways.

We cannot learn God’s Will until we completely dedicate ourselves to God. This includes our body, soul, spirit, time, possessions and family. It means giving up the desire to do our own thing.  Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2.

Paulette looked up at Beth and said, “blow me down with a feather, you got all that from the Lord’s Prayer”….I need to know more.

The Lord’s Prayer continues next week.
