The western world especially Europe has become a vassal of the USA economically and technologically. The USA is the world hegemon and talk of a multipolar world is premature.
Digital technology centered in the US rules daily life. From when the human being rises from bed first thing in the morning, Facebook, Google. Microsoft, Apple, and Twitter together with numerous high tech businesses such as HP, Amazon, Dell and Oracle get people engaged. The most powerful businesses, and the wealthiest people on earth, are organizations and citizens of the USA. The rest of the world looks on with amazement.
The Virgin Islands where this writer locates is no different from any jurisdiction where the digital technology and the currency of the USA – the Dollar- rules. The west’s consumers and businesses rely on an information infrastructure from the USA to drive their lives, businesses and prosperity.
These corporations and their owners possess feudal type power over the USA and the rest of the world. The US is not a democracy in the strict sense of the word although it portrays itself as such. The US is an oligarchy: powerful corporations and their owners rule America. The term is techno-corporatism. The preceding is another form of military industrial complex that rules the west. The one limit to that power is China, and its growing number of allies in the South.
Presently, a nervous Europe is engaged in bloody conflict. Europe has to look both ways – west to the USA and east to China – to decide where to deal its cards. The USA through its military strength in the supply of armaments holds Russia at bay. The UK and Europe know this tale well and fully understand the power of the USA. This is similar to when the USA supported its allies in two world wars leading them to victory.
The US holds the line between Russia and Ukraine: between a supposed aggressor and its allies in NATO. The US may prevent Russia invading neighboring states that have become members of NATO. It has that power. Countries such as the UK, Germany and France, European powers, look to the US for their sustainability in terms of their security.
