SVG:Records galore at Inter-Secondary Schools track

The many athletes competing in the 2013 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines National Lotteries Authority-sponsored Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championships did not disappoint the billing given to the event held last Thursday March 21, 2013 at the Anos Vale Cricket Ground.

Twenty –five new records were established since the authorities began using electronic timing in 2011.

Shaffiqua Maloney of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School set four of the new marks in the Girls’ Under-17 division.

Her new marks were 10.23 metres in the triple-jump, 13.03 seconds in the 100-metre dash, 26.25 seconds and 59.14 seconds in the 200-metres and 400-metres respectively.

Not to be outdone, the athletes from the Bishop’s College accounted for six new records.

Talia Franklyn set a new Girls’ Under-21 100-metre record of 12.16 seconds, Reuberth Boyde had new marks in the Boys’ Under-21 100-mtre of 10.95 seconds 21.91 seconds in the 200 metres; Ryan John with a time of 8:23.67 minutes ran a new record in the Boys’ 5000 metres, Najima Burgin with leaps of 6.57 metres and 13.30 metres respectively, established new records in the Boys’ Under-17 long and triple-jumps.

In the Boys’ Under-21 division, Kellornie Howe with 50.27 seconds in the 400-metres, and Kasique Olliverwith 1:56.92 minutes in the 800-metres, both of the St. Vincent Grammar School, set records respectively.

Central Leeward Secondary School’s Shemar Welcome is the new Boys’ Under-14 male 400-metre record holder with a time of 58.40 seconds.

The new record in the Girls’ Under-14 100-metre 13.24 seconds, now held by Daria Matthias of St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown.

Another female, Shantal Rouse of the Bethel High School, established new record in the Girls’ Under-21 with times of 25.73 seconds and 59.35 seconds in the 200-metre and 400-metre, respectively.

The Girls’ Under-17 1,500-metre record was reset by Kerina Hooper of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, with a time of 5:17.90 minutes.

A leap of 11.23 metres propelled Nicky Ann Stephens of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School into the record books as the new holder of the Girls’ Under-21 triple jump.

Another field record was also re-written this time in the Girls’ Under-17 discus by Danielle DaSilva of the St Joseph’s Convent of Marriaqua, with a throw of 27.07 metres.

The Campden Park Secondary School relay quartets ran new times of 54.39 seconds and 51.94 seconds in the Girls’ Under-14 and Under-21 4X100-metre relays, respectively.

Thomas Saunders Secondary School established a new Girls’ Under-17 4X100-metre relay record in a time of 52.10 seconds, with the Girls’ High School’s setting a new Girls’ Under-14 4×200-metre relay record in a time of 1:56.42 minutes.

Thomas Saunders Secondary clocked 4:11.61 minutes to set a new Girls’ Under-17 girls 4X400-metre record, while the St Vincent Grammar School broke Boys’ Under-21 4X400-metre in a time of 3:30.83 minutes.
