Wrap Star Ann-Marie Davy

I want my children to see the beauty in modesty.      I want them to be comfortable in knowing with their hair covered they are still beautiful and learn to appreciate that regality. ~Beautiful SciAsia Earth

This week, you are in for a triple dose of WrapStar splendor as I introduce three WrapStars from Portsmouth, Virginia, USA. Yes, I said three!  First, our primary feature is Beautiful SciAsia Earth, who is the marvelous mother of our secondary features; NyAisha and Haniyyah, 7 year old twin girls!  SciAsia has worn head wraps for the past 15 years and finds pleasure in donning a multitude of colors and textures.  She wears wraps with everything; citing the versatility and beauty as one of the most appealing characteristics of head wrapping.  She is the owner of Power of Refinement, a company which creates knitted and crocheted items, handcrafted cards, gifts, and jewelry.  SciAsia says: “I absolutely enjoy every aspect of my business. It allows me to funnel my creativity into something special and to include my children within my business. They have the option to create products for their own section on the website.”

Introductions complete! Now, through a series of questions and answers we move on to discover the WrapStar in these three amazing ladies:

Ann-Marie: I am dying to know, why do you wrap your hair?

SciAsia:  “I wrap my hair for the purpose of modesty. I also love how I look when I am covered. In a world where showing everything is the supposed thing to do, there are those of us who are showcasing what it means to bring back regal dignity.”

Ann-Marie: And your daughters; why did you think it is important to wrap their heads?

SciAsia:  I want my children to see the beauty in modesty. I want them to be comfortable in knowing that with their hair covered they are still beautiful and learn to appreciate that regality. I allow them to determine when and if they want to wrap their hair. I’m just fortunate that they like to be like their mother.” She laughs and says; “It is funny because when they first wore it to school, one of the twins said she didn’t want to be different but after her sister wore it and received sweet compliments, she then decided that she wanted to wrap up for school too. I saw more confidence in her as she began to embrace being different; which in my household is called individualism”.  Laughing, she goes on to say; “Now, as they have started their locs, I want them to further understand that their hair is an extension of them and not for everyone to touch.

Ann-Marie: Do you have the same restriction regarding their wraps?

SciAsia:  “Yes, I do. It’s just as personal as their hair. The only one who touches their wraps is me unless it’s someone I know and trust who may put it back on if it falls off.  Ultimately, I think there are some things that are sacred; hair and wraps are among those things. My daughters don’t even touch their own hair when wrapped. I think along the lines of; if you were in front of a king or queen of any country, could you or would you just walk up and touch their crown? No, because they are royalty and with that regality comes respect and humbleness. I am a queen and require the same respect and train my daughters the same.”

Always interested to know what inspires our WrapStars to try different styles or sometimes to continue to wear wraps, I asked SciAsia; what inspires you? And learned that she is inspired by other women and the variety of beautiful styles she sees both in the group, Headwraps & WrapStars and in her travels. She says; “any style I see that I think suites me I attempt to learn it.” And WrapStars let me tell you, this is very important. In order to learn new styles and create unique looks of our own, we can’t be afraid to try new things.  SciAsia says; “I love to do what is called within my culture a stacked crown, also known as the Nefertiti wrap.”

Now, let’s here from the WrapStar Princesses:

Princess NyAisha is the first born of SciAsia’s twin girls. The princess whose favorite color wrap is Teal, says; “I like wrapping my hair because my mommy does it”.

Haniyyah, the second of the twins, favorite color wrap is Fuscia and she a confident WrapStar whose personality shines through in the following quote; “I like wrapping my hair because it brings out my style!”

Out of the mouth of babes…and a wonderful ending to this WrapStar triple feature!  Special thanks to SciAsia for sharing her story and her princesses with me. Thank you Princess NyAsisha & Haniyyah!
