Many thanks to Dr Maria del Pilar Kaladeen and Prof. David Dabydeen for pulling together a brilliant Guyana SPEAKS event today and to Gordon Warnecke, Elly Niland, Mr Gee, Nalini Mohabir and Lainy Malkani for reading their contributions from the ground breaking book, The Other Windrush (2021) by Pluto Press. Huge thanks to Prof. David Dabydeen for managing to persuade the publishers to bring the paperback price down from £16.99 to £9.99 (it includes a free e-book).

The anthology includes ten true stories from the descendants of Indian and Chinese labourers: they are insightful, sometimes witty, sometimes painfully familiar, broad-ranging and all beautifully written. The book is currently number 6 in the list of bestselling books on multi-cultural history. I am thoroughly enjoying my copy. I hope you’ll get one too!

If you missed Sunday’s event, please see the recording below…
