Home African Caribbean Dominica: Police destroy $22-million worth of drugs

The police here have said the destruction of over $22-million worth of drugs on Monday afternoon is an indicator of the efforts of law enforcement in combating the drug trade.

“That in itself is a true manifestation of the unrelenting  persistent and concerted effort of the law enforcement agency of course in collaboration with other agencies as we seek to combat the drug collaboratively and to minimize it’s impact in Dominica particularly on our youth,” police PRO, Assistant Superintendent Claude Weekes told members of the media who witnessed the destruction of the drugs.

“Can you imagine the volume of drugs here would give you an idea if the police had not been successful at recovering and creating a significant dent in the drug trade, what would happen to the youngsters?” he asked.

Head of the Drug Squad, Inspector John Carbon, agreed stating that the destruction of the drugs is evidence that the police is successful in the fight against illegal drugs.

“Over the years we have been successful in many operations, not all were successful but the majority of them were and today we are here destroying the drugs that have been confiscated,” he said, adding that the police will continue their efforts and urged the citizenry to stay drug free.

The destruction took place at the Police Training School in Morne Bruce.

It contained marijuana and cocaine which were seized by the police over a period of time spanning way back to 2012 and even later, according to Weekes. Article courtesy dominicanewsonline.com
