I had the pleasure of visiting both these islands this year as I was attending the St Kitts Music festival. Here are some island historical facts and figures for you to note.

The recorded history of St. Kitts and Nevis begins with the second voyage in 1493 of Christopher Columbus. Formerly known as Saint Christopher Island. Nevis was formerly known as Saint Martin. The Islands are a part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles.  St Kitts and the neighbouring island of Nevis constitute one country: the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

The two islands are separated by a shallow two-mile channel, known as “The Narrows”.  St Kitts has a population of around 35,000. Nevis has a population of around 12,000. The capital of the two-island nation, and also its largest port, is the town of Basseterre on St Kitts.

St Kitts and Nevis offers a rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean. So why have I have become a fan of these 2 islands and encouraging my clients to visit St Kitts and Nevis.

Beautiful St Kitts & Nevis

As a child I would visit Jamaica on summer holidays with my parents and I fell in love with the lifestyle and pace of the Caribbean. Visiting St Kitts and Nevis took me back to those days and my trip felt extremely nostalgic.  The hills, quiet roads, unspoilt landscape and the uncanny similarity in accents took me back to my summer adventures.

For me the Caribbean as a holiday destination can offer you more than sun, sand and rum (even though I love all three) they all have a rich history, culture and heritage to experience.  In St Kitts take a rain forest walk, watch turtles, go horse racing, experience the Saturday market, be inspired by historical tours, be mesmorised by magical mountain views and take in some lunch at Alfredo’s for some good local fish and provisions.

I can’t wait to go back next year because on each island you always meet great people with whom you connect so a big thank you to Carol, Maynard, Nadia, Rosecita and the Caribbean press crew and many more who showed us BIG love in St Kitts and Nevis.

I will be giving you lots more on St Kitts and Nevis but for the time being put them on your must visit destination list.
