The Woman King is an upcoming American historical epic film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, from a screenplay she co-wrote with Dana Stevens and a story by Maria Bello. It is based on the true story of the Dahomey Amazons. It stars Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, British actress Lashana Lynch, Ugandan-British actress Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and British actor and Star Wars hero John Boyega. Davis and Bello also produced the film. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 16, 2022, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
