Trinidad and Tobago celebrates the most magnificent event every year. This event is called Carnival.

It is true that other countries in the Caribbean have a carnival such as St. Kitts, South America; like Brazil, and even the U.S in New York. However, the greatest of all is in Trinidad and Tobago.

Today, we focus on the parties/fetes of carnival. This year we had over 24 different fetes to which all Trinidadians and foreigners went to and had the time of their lives.

This year was more special from the rest. In every fete there was a rivalry between the “old dog” and the “new dog”. The old dog was the 9 times Road March champion and 5 times Soca Monarch winner “Supa Blue” and the young dog being, the 5 times Road March champion and 3 time Soca Monarch champion Machel Montano.

In every fete, when the song of Supa Blue’s “Fantastic Friday” hit the speaker boxes, everyone in the crowd would chant “Supa, Supa Supa” as the retired champion returned to the “battle field” to challenge the young Machel Montano the current king of the Monarch and his song “Float”.

On fantastic Friday the night these two titans clashed at the International Power Soca Monarch. The crowd singing “Float like superman” when Machel came out and had put on his performance; when it was Supa Blue’s turn the crowd went into frenzy, chanting “Supa Supa Supa” as the horn of the conk shell blew in the night.  Montano would take the groove aspect of the competition but tie with the Old dog for first place for the Power aspect of the show.

At the end of the night it was said whoever won the Road March title at the end of Carnival Tuesday would be the best. Machel Montano’s “Float” was played 56 times, while ‘Supa Blue’s” song “Fantastic Friday was played 511 times. In the end the old dog won and declared the greatest.

It is important to note, that this rivalry is not over yet, as the Power Soca Monarch was tied, and many saying it must be decided in 2014, the passion and power to win will continue, moving the people to have fun and excitement whilst enjoying the ecstasy from this great rivalry in the greatest show on earth.
