Save your Life: Step 1

I made up my mind that I was going to cease talking and start doing. I always told myself that I needed to exercise, to keep fit and most of all, feeling and looking good. Yes, I had the natural slim body and the high metabolism rate.

However, if I wish to lead a healthy lifestyle that meant I had to eat right, exercise regularly and feed my mind with positive things. I wanted to be a healthy all-rounder.

 

My colleagues normally say to me ‘What do you need to work out for? Yu nuh see yu slim already!’ Many people make the mistake that exercise is only necessary when you want to lose weight. Yes, I was slim but, I still had a hard time breathing after taking a couple flights of stairs. I still couldn’t jog half a mile without feeling like I was fainting and the list goes on. You just know that you’re definitely unfit if you can’t walk up the hill to your friend’s house.

 

This morning before work, I did some laps, stretches, crouches about 15- 30 minutes worth of exercise. I didn’t feel so great immediately after. However, as my day progressed I realized there was a difference; I was a bit more upbeat. I knew somehow the exercise helped. Tomorrow, I’m going to go again. Yes I’m young and all well now…However, what about later?

 

One of the reasons why I don’t drink or smoke is because of my health. I know if I did those, it might not affect me now but it will later. Life is not guaranteed to anyone but while you’re here, why not take care of yourself? It’s never too late to start now.

 

You do not have to wait on that top of the class treadmill or any gym equipment for that matter. Go jog as the sun rises on the beach (if you like in the Caribbean or somewhere that has a beach lol), do Pilates to videos on youtube, turn on the music and lose yourself in Dancehall/Soca, do some stretches while you’re getting ready for work in the morning. You can exercise while do your chores, take z steps instead of the elevator, walk to work instead of taking taxis if it’s near, do 5ks for charities or you could follow Carly’s brother, Spencer on  Icarly’s and do a particular exercise for 30 seconds of an hour for 18 hours…

 

Milky Way

You have to start…starting will be the most difficult stage. You’ll always find the excuses, you’ll always love the taste of Black Forest Cake, Cookies and Cream ice cream, Milky way, you’ll always prefer sitting and watching the TV than going for a walk, napping in late than getting up and preparing a healthy breakfast…Sometimes you have to remember it’s not what tastes or feels good but it’s what’s good for you.

 

Make Healthy living a way of life…implement it into your everyday living…find ways to enjoy it for example: if you like dancing, use it as a form of exercise. We won’t be here forever but we can definitely prolong it. While you’re alive take care of yourself and if you haven’t been doing that, why not START today?
