Caribbean news. Martinique welcomes a preparatory summit to the 21st conference of the United Nations on climate change.

Serge Letchimy, the President of the Regional Council of Martinique, confirms that a regional summit dedicated to the preparation and the mobilization toward the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) for the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change, will be held in Martinique on May 9th, 2015.Martinique summit

This summit will be chaired by François Hollande, the President of France, and will bring together States and Territories of the Caribbean among which the French Outermost Regions.

It has for objective to list the initiatives of the Caribbean pond which must be integrated in a “schedule of solutions” adapted to the specificities of these territories.

It also aims at contributing to the writing of an ambitious and binding global agreement which must be adopted during the COP21 (United Nations conference on climate change) which will be held at the end of this year in Paris.
