A TRANSFORMATIVE EVENT THAT WILL CATALYZE THE GROWTH OF ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS IN THE CARIBBEAN

(Kingston, Jamaica) Leading Alternative Investment Firm, Sygnus will be hosting Jamaica’s 1st Alternative Investment Summit on September 22, 2022, which will be held in Kingston, Jamaica and live streamed for attendees to participate. The conference, dubbed “Sygnus Day” will be a One Day Summit around Alternative Investments under the theme: The Emergence of Regional Alternative Investments. Participants will be invited to explore the dynamic world of Alternative Investments and how it can enhance growth for their business, as well as their investment portfolios.

An alternative investment can be defined as a financial asset that doesn’t fall within conventional asset categories such as stocks and bonds.. Alternative investments typically include private credit, private equity, real estate, venture capital, hedge funds and commodities. This burgeoning asset class in the Caribbean enables increased economic development through greater accessibility to capital that propels the growth of companies, greater investments in the real estate sector and more private equity investments. According to the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), the global professional body dedicated to Alternative Investments, “Alternatives are expected to produce half of industry revenue in a few years, despite representing just 12% of the $153 trillion global investable market in 2020, fueled by growth across strategies.*” For the last  5 years, Sygnus has played a major part in the growth  of alternative investments across the region. This accelerated growth has allowed Sygnus to be positioned as a leading investment firm in the Caribbean and Latin America with established offices in Puerto Rico and St. Lucia. The firm currently has over US $400M under administration, in which they utilize alternative forms of investment such as Private Credit, Real Estate Finance and Private Equity to satisfy the unmet demands for innovative investment opportunities, unlocking capital for growing companies, and plays a critical role in economic development across the region.

“As a part of our commitment to fueling economic growth across the region through innovative and creative financing, we wanted to create a platform in the form of a one-day summit that would allow our team of experts and partners to showcase the power of alternatives regionally and globally. This summit will help not just institutional and individual investors to have a broader perspective of the services offered under alternative investments, but also help other stakeholders to garner a deeper understanding of the various forms of alternative investments, and how this asset class can propel their success, whether in portfolio management or business,” shared Berisford Grey, Co Founder and President and CEO at Sygnus Capital.

The Alternative Investment summit which has been endorsed by the Caribbean Alternative Investment Association (CARAIA), will be hosted by Dr. Terri-Karelle Reid. The audience will be guided through engaging fireside chats and keynote presentations including Breaking the Boundaries of Private Credit, De-risking Real Estate Investment to Create Value, The Untapped Power of Private Equity, and Impacting Investing, as well as, a keynote presentation by Ladell Robbins, Managing Director of BlackRock on the Global Perspective of Alternative Investments. BlackRock is the world’s largest asset manager, with US$8.5 trillion in assets under management as of June 2022.

Grey continued, “Speakers including James Connor, CEO and Founding Partner of Acrecent in Puerto Rico and Ladell Robbins Managing Director of BlackRock,  one of the the world’s leading providers of investment, advisory and risk management solutions will provide our audience with key insights and trends in the regional and global alternative investment landscape. We believe that this will be a transformative event that will catalyze the growth of Alternative Investments in the Caribbean.”

The event will be in the form of a hybrid presentation, where attendees are invited to register at sygnusgroup.com/sygnus-day-2022 to participate in the one-day summit virtually. The event is slated to run from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and interested participants can visit sygnusgroup.com/sygnus-day-2022 for more information.
