Is Valentine’s Day The Glue For Fixing Relationships & Life?

What is the glue for fixing broken relationships and life? Well let’s look at what glue is, it’s a substance made from organic compounds or is a synthetic adhesive that has one common purpose, and that is to stick back together precious things that have been broken. Sometimes the glue successfully sticks the broken item back together but a crack remains, and there are times when things cannot be fixed. So again I ask what is the glue for fixing broken relationships and life? The answer is found in the bible – John 3:16¹.

This scripture states that “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”¹. My interpretation of this scripture is that ‘LOVE & GIVING’ is the organic glue for fixing relationships and life, it’s the giving of oneself for the benefit of the other, (please note this does not apply to any form of abuse or narcissistic behaviour). We know that every relationship cannot be fixed like some items, but if we apply God’s love to fix our relationships and lives on a daily basis I’m convinced we’d have more success and be happier people. 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 from the Bible defines what this love is.

Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is celebrated in many parts of the world as the day of expressing love to our loved ones. On this given day florists, chocolatiers, sexy lingerie, jewellers and romantic trip companies make a very healthy profit. According to Britannica.com² Valentine’s Day “has [it’s] origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia,… which celebrated the coming of spring…fertility rites…pairing off women with men by lottery. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I forbid the celebration of Lupercalia…replacing it with St. Valentine’s Day [which was not] celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century”. Would you agree that Valentine’s Day is the glue that fixes relationships and life? I think not.

I enjoy love, romance and all of it’s benefits, but believe that God’s love is the organic glue compound and perfect for fixing relationships and daily life, (even if your relationship cannot be mended your life can, and God’s love will heal all scars of the heart). In my humble opinion as much as the idea behind Valentine’s Day is great, I liken it to a synthetic adhesive which fixes the cracks but does not heal broken relationships or life as it has no depth. I want to encourage you that if you didn’t receive any gifts or affirmations of love on Valentines Day, know that God loves you and His organic love glue is perfect for fixing your relationship and life.

Questions:

  1. What are you doing to fix the issues in your life?
  2. Are you at peace and content within yourself?
  3. Are you relying on people to change your life and affirm you, and if they don’t are you’re crushed?

Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
