Fresh from achieving world status by winning the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World DJ Championships in Santiago, Chile after a week of qualifiers. The Grand Final took place at the Vélodromo del Estadio Nacional, on Saturday night. The seventh World Finals saw a thousand-strong crowd gather together under the blistering-hot sun to witness some of the best party-starting DJ’s on the planet vie for the prestigious title.
Among those competing were wild-card entrant Trapment, JFB from the UK, Australia’s very own Beast Mode and You-Ki representing Japan.
However, it was DJ Puffy who was judged to be the best at rocking the crowd with an eclectic choice of tunes and a compelling stage presence. “I am an energy factory, I’m overwhelmed,” said the 25-year-old after winning the title. “I will carry the torch the best I can as the best DJ in the world for the next year.”
The competition also saw guest sets from the judging panel, world-class masters Nu-Mark, Scratch Bastid, Craze, Z-Trip and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
DJ Puffy walked onto the tarmac greeted by an energetic tuk band and two stiltwalkers, and then made his way to a welcome reception compliments of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.
He was praised by Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley and Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy.
