In community news. Newham NDP’s new heritage exhibition planned for spring 2014 is looking for people who either lived or had family or friends who lived in the Cundy Road area of Canning Town – previously known as Draughtsboard Alley in the 1920s – 1930s.

Newham NDP is planning its new exhibition and community events focusing on the families who lived in and around Cundy Street, Tidal Basin Road, Crown Street, Catherine Street and Victoria Dock Road.  In the 1920s and 30s these streets had tightly knit communities often descending from foreign seamen who settled in those areas either in the 1930s and 1930s or even further back.

Some married locally born women and raised families, leading ordinary lives in extraordinary times in the East End and in this area of Newham.

If you can help with any photos, documents, newspaper cuttings, memorabilia or stories, contact Chiara McKenzie in the Heritage Team at Newham NDP on 0207 474 6376 (Thursdays/Fridays) or at [email protected].
