Fund Raiser for Steel Band Arranger Jit Samaroo

The Benefit concert” will feature BP Renegades, nine time Panorama champs for whom Jit created a signature sound. The family band, the Samaroo Jets and Supa Nova, the band founded by his son Amrit will also perform at the concert to be staged at the Queen’s Park Savannah, as well as Arima Angel Harps, Tornadoes, Sangre Grande Cordettes and Trinidad Nostalgic.
Jit, who is 64 years old was granted an honorary doctorate from the Universty of the West Indies in 2003 and received two national awards, The Humming Bird Silver in 1987 and the Chaconia Silver in 1995.
Pan Trinbago says that Jit Samaroo has composed ballads, gospel, jazz, folk, latin jazz, chutney, Indian and calypso songs. Eleven (11) of his compositions were test pieces for steelpan competitions and in 1996, he composed the sound track for Kamalo Deen’s full length motion picture “The Panman” which was filmed in Trinidad & Tobago.
