Amazing how one short visit or a mere sighting of one you love could mean so much. For just one moment, your heart is completely swollen and ready to burst with all the love you feel.
For just that moment you feel taller, smarter and stronger. And you know that it is impossible, but it feels so real. And you are grateful for all you have but most of all for the one who has made you feel this way.
For some of you, it is someone you are romantically connected with. For me, it is my best girlfriends. The passage of time and changes in circumstance, have made it difficult to keep up with each other. We can’t ‘lime’ as often as we would like to and we barely have the time to call or text. As we are the sort that believe in making the time to ensure that we are all doing well and enjoying good health, we are not completely cut off.
I found myself the blessed recipient of a visit from one gal pal just today. And it made my day. She couldn’t visit for long, as she expected to fly out within twenty-four hours, yet she made the time to pop in. Naturally, I threatened to keep her, taking her into a bear hug- a never-ending embrace that said “I miss you”- and I could tell that she was saddened by the brevity of the visit also.
In spite of the pain, it was enough to see each other. We have learned this after
many years. Duty can be a slave-driver, but there are those lucky moments where the thing we feel duty-bound to do brings us immeasurable joy.
To my love, I say thank you for including me in your itinerary. I might have worried that I was no longer important to you or that we were destined to drift apart. Yet, the minutes we spent together strengthened my spine, and brightened my smile.
So whether you get a glimpse of your loved one, or enjoy a visit that lasts a moment, or if you are blessed enough to see everyone you love regularly, may we always show gratitude for the priceless gift that true friendship and love are, and may we remember to let those who make us happy know it through our actions!
